Day Trips off of Sanibel and Captiva Islands

Many visitors to the islands of Sanibel and Captiva find themselves wanting to explore the environs onshore. It is really no wonder why. Florida day trips can involve anything from exploring some of the most cosmopolitan areas in the nation to visiting some of the most ancient animals on the planet. From the Everglades to the spectacular environs on the islands themselves, there are plenty of places to explore if one wants to get off the island for a bit. Sometimes, getting off the island means simply taking a trip out on the water.

Many day trips in Florida center on the Everglades and other swampy environs. Near Sanibel and Captiva, visitors can explore the Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve. A day trip to this destination can also be taken with the assistance of a guide service. This adds a great deal to the experience. There are literally tens of thousands of different animal and plant species that live in these environments and it takes a studied individual to explain them all. For kids, this is an excellent way to provide them with an unforgettable adventure and a lesson about the world that will be sure to endure.

There are islands farther out than Captiva and Sanibel and many of them constitute some of the best one day trips in Florida. Islands such as North Captiva, Lovers Keys, Useppa and Cabbage provide some of the best sight-seeing around. These islands are inhabited by only a few individuals on the average and are largely unspoiled. The amount of life to be seen in the Gulf of Mexico is truly astounding. On the shores of these islands, one will find many different species of shells that beg to be examined and explored. Of course, simply enjoying some of the long and largely empty beaches is one of the best pastimes imaginable.

Day trips in Florida oftentimes mean a journey defined by golf. There are numerous golf courses on both the islands and in the larger Fort Myers area. These courses, like all Florida golf courses, offer excellent play in a beautiful environment. They make excellent destinations for day trips. Florida also offers some excellent destinations which aren’t readily apparent. For instance, the causeway that leads from the mainland to Sanibel has excellent fishing spots and some nice beaches. These make a fun day trip when one doesn’t wish to travel too far.
