Soak up the Sanibel Island, FL nightlife
Sanibel and Captiva Island's Nightlife

Sanibel Island bars offer tourists something to do after the spectacular sunsets for which this island is known. The island population is a very cohesive group, but visitors to the local watering holes will be greeted with nothing but warmth. After all, this island’s economy depends on tourism to a great extent and Sanibel Island nightlife is generally a pretty hopping affair. There are several bars from which to choose both on Sanibel Island and on neighboring Captiva Island. The fact that most places can be reached on foot or bike makes the nightlife even more fun and safe.

The Mucky Duck on Captiva Island is one of the most famous pubs on either island. This establishment was founded in the 1970’s when two island residents found out that there was an available liquor license for Captiva. They purchased what was once a tea house and rental property and created what amounts to an English-style pub right in the downtown area of Captiva. Today, The Mucky Duck is one of the most popular places to be. The island bar is most famous for its sunset views. The establishment also serves food to its guests, including gourmet seafood dishes.

Biddles Bucket, located on Sanibel Island, is a family-friendly establishment. The restaurant serves hamburgers and other fun fare and is located in a cheery, pastel-colored building in the commercial district of Sanibel. This establishment is family-owned and the owners have taken the time to make the restaurant popular with children. Biddles Bucket-simply “The Bucket” to locals-has attractions such as an arcade and a frog tank which can keep the young ones busy before the meal arrives. The family owns another establishment off-island which serves more adult fare and which was voted the most romantic restaurant in a local poll.

Other Sanibel Island attractions include the theaters. There are two of particular note. The Pirate Playhouse is situated in an unassuming grey building but the production company regularly performs some very famous pieces. There are 180 seats available in this particular facility and it is one of the island’s most popular. The Schoolhouse Theatre is contained in an old schoolhouse, appropriately enough. This was recently renovated and also offers a wide variety of plays. Productions include plays both old and new. Both of these venues provide something different where Captiva and Sanibel nightlife options are concerned.
